Yum Cha Restaurant Dim Sum Buffet!

*sponsored

Yum Cha Restaurant has been an been a popular icon for Dim Sum since 2000.

Both Dim Sum (点心) and Yum Cha (饮茶) are cantonese pronunciations.

Dim Sum is a traditional cantonese delicacy served in small portions in bamboo cages or on small plates.  In olden days, dim sum is only eaten as breakfast or in between meals with chinese tea which cantonese referred as "yum cha".   Whenever a chinese says she's going to yum cha (饮茶), it is understood that she going for some dim sum (点心).

Now, times has changed, just eat whenever you are hungry!

That's why I am blogging about
Yum Cha Dim Sum Buffet!

Yum Cha Chinatown is located at the 2nd floor along the shop houses at Trengganu Street.
Relaxing oriental ambience which I appreciate very much after previous dim sum experience at another cramp restaurant.

Their foldable menu is genius!  You know most typical menu in those big A4 size book so big that you can't find space to put it once the table is full of dim sum >.<
The menu opens up with 63 items consisting of steam dim sum, fried dim sum, rice/congee, side dishes and desserts!

While it's mission impossible for us to try everything, here are some yummy dim sums we had:

Phoenix Claw 桂林浆凤爪

BBQ Pork Bun 蚝皇叉烧包

Scallop Pea-shoot Dumpling 豆苗带子饺

My favourite, dim sum is never complete without traditional prawn dumplings.

Steamed Prawn balls with Thai Sauce 泰汁蒸虾丸

Siew Mai with Oyster 蚝子烧卖
Shreds of dried oysters were added in, taste unique, but the still prefer the traditional one below.....

Fish Roe Siew Mai 鱼子蒸烧卖
This blur pic is not doing the siew mai any justice.  It was the best siew mai I ever had eaten so far.  It's huge like ping pong ball, juicy and extremely "bouncy" in texture making each bite a pleasure.  The siew mai fillings are made from mixture of chicken and prawn paste.  The delectable subtle taste makes it impossible to stop at one piece.   MUST ORDER!!

Yum Cha Crabmeat Sea Treasure Soup Dumpling 生折蟹肉灌汤饺

Crab meat dumpling with soft and thin skin is immerse in flavourful seafood broth.
This superior broth is not included in the buffet but it's worth a try at S$7.80.

Rather than having the same old buffet with excessive fried rice/noodles, we had ordered Yum Cha dim sum during Chinese New Year for our relatives and friends!

Yes, we ordered Yu Sheng 鱼生 too!

Everybody enjoyed the food very much, we made our guests felt so pampered.  As hosts we felt proud, 多体面大方!
